A sneaky short weekend in February (23rd- 25th Feb) for 2 stars and above to the Hook peninsula in Wexford. Trainees and 1 stars are welcome to join us for snorkelling and partying
The main aim of this weekend is to get all those crusty experienced divers back in the water before the season starts. We won’t be doing any deep diving as we wont be dived up but please let me know if there is any particular dives you want to do or any training you want to get in on the weekend.
I’m hoping to organise some photography/research dives as well as some general fun dives on wrecks and some relaxing shore dives.
Hook is known for its exceptionally clear waters, diversity of ship wrecks and shore dives. Its also quite close to Dublin and only takes about 2 hours from Dublin so perfect for a short weekend.
Where are we staying? http://www.hookcottage.ie

Malinbeg marks the official start of the dive season and for many, their first trip with the club. It is the one weekend of the year that is completely dedicated to getting as many of our trainees qualified as possible to become One Star Divers.

Expect plenty of good diving in Irelands sunniest county. Treats include the cliffs at Bray Head, Doolus Head, Fish Island and of course the Skelligs! A UNESCO heritage sites a bumpy 40 minutes of shore and made a recent appearance in star wars ! Home to a large seal colony(200) and sea birds(60,000!), and Europes largest Gannet colony. And to add a sugar on top there is a WWII plane in the water just north of the islands. Visibility is reported to always be good and depths go anywhere from 15m to 50m! Fingers crossed for Basking Sharks!
By now you should have heard the rumblings that we are saving for a new boat. This will be the first of a number of bagpacking slots to raise some funds for that and also for the RNLI cos they are a dandy bunch of folks. Our first bagpacking session will be taking place in Dunnes in Cornelscourt and we would really appreciate your help. Sign up on the doodle.
We had a really successful start to this RNLI Sea Survival Workshop. A huge thanks to the crew for Dun Laoghaire RNLI who came down to give us some tips on being safe out on the water. MIRP DANIO! Looking forward to the second instalment.
CFT Coxswain Powerboat handling course.
The course consists of 1-day class based session followed by a series of practical sessions where the candidate is required to log 10 hours boat hours.
Achill Island is one of the gems of West Ireland with dramatic cliffs and perfect beaches. No wonder the scuba diving here is so good.
We used to say, We can launch where we want, we can dive where we want!!!
Guess we are bringing this to a whole new level now!!!
Our current plan is to build a giant flying Manta Ray, wrapped in plastic debris, the team members, free the Manta before the launch and return the manta back to the ocean!!!
If you want to get involved or think you can help us win this race and get €3,000 for the club, please contact the event organiser (Mehdi).
This would be a great day out for all club members and families.
