Our brilliant Scientific Officer Danielle has been busy educating us with fun facts about marine life. She’s actually taught me more in one email than I learned in four years of Zoology. Go figure. So come along to the UCD cinema at 20:30 for the next installment of Blue Planet II.
We had a really successful start to this RNLI Sea Survival Workshop. A huge thanks to the crew for Dun Laoghaire RNLI who came down to give us some tips on being safe out on the water. MIRP DANIO! Looking forward to the second instalment.
Screening with Q&A
The first of a three part series exploring the beauty of Ireland’s Atlantic waters; both life on the surface as well as the deep coral reefs in the North Atlantic, a first in any TV production.
Presented by natural history filmmaker, cameraman and ocean conservationist, Ken O’Sullivan, Ireland’s Deep Atlantic is a new series due to broadcast on RTÉ later this April in association with Sea Fever Productions and the Irish Underwater Council (CFT).
Cinema and food will be FREE of charge! We will ask you to make a donation towards RNLI fundraising. Thank you!
CFT Coxswain Powerboat handling course.
The course consists of 1-day class based session followed by a series of practical sessions where the candidate is required to log 10 hours boat hours.
In this race against time, scuba peers are faced with the challenge of locating the clue at the end of the shot line!
Teams enter from opposite sides of the bay and submerge to go head-to-head towards their designated markers throughout the centre of the bay. When a team locates their shot line, they must read their riddle clue attached to the weight, transcribe it on their diving slate and bring it to their team onshore. Then the second (and possibly third) subsequent teams must do the same, with the riddle clues changing every time between by our crew on the water. At the end of the relay exercise, each whole club must solve their riddle by putting each separate clue together.
Oh, and how do we follow their progress while underwater, you ask? Well by attaching funny recognisable SMBs to each team of divers!
Onshore there will be food, music, and games to keep up the competitive spirit while the divers are in the water, and afterward, awards will be presented over dinner and pints, then straight to coppers (wristbands pending)! So, join us for a day of unbeatable craic, but remember to bring your competitive side.
